An artist from childhood, Nancy always enjoyed drawing, painting and “making things.” The strong art department at Burlington High School and her art teachers inspired her to develop her talents and strive for a career in the arts. Nancy received her BFA from Salem State College and her MA from Tufts and The School of The Museum of Fine Arts Boston. Mrs. Muise recently retired from Arlington public Schools (MA) where she taught art for twenty-two years at Arlington High. While she taught art at various levels, painting and ceramics was her specialty. During her teaching career, sixteen collaborative mosaic tile murals and painted murals created by her students were installed in municipal buildings throughout Arlington.
“I am fortunate to witness firsthand how art transforms lives...the process of making art brings a sense of peace and joy to me and others.”
When Nancy is not creating works of art, she enjoys spending time with her husband Paul and family.
Nancy paints “in plein air” and “alla prima.” Her technique is wet on wet, quick, with an expressive style. Her paintings are a window of how she processes the world around her. “The sky, land, and water is elusive, I strive to be clear in intent though briefly stated.” Nancy achieves a luscious, impasto texture, which suggests a gestural movement of brushes and palette knives. For larger paintings done in her studio, she uses studies or a computer monitor. Depending on the effects or length of drying time involved, she switches between oils and acrylics. Her subjects vary, including landscapes, still-life, inspiration from her travels or her home on Cape Ann.
“I found I could say things with colors that I couldn’t say in any other way- things that I had no words for.” ~ Georgia O’Keeffe
